Dadu growers hit by unfair water distribution
DADU, June 19 Injudicious distribution of irrigation water has affected the paddy and cotton crops at the tail end of Dadu canal and Johi Branch.
Reports said that illegal watercourses operating on non-inspection path of Dadu canal were drawing excess water hence tail end growers of Dadu canal and Johi branch were not getting their due share.
Modules at the head of Chinni, Khariro, Pirgunio waterways originating from Johi branch were also tempered with.
Some 30 RDs out of 50 RDs of Chinni, 20 out of 45 of Pahore, 15 out 35 of Patoro, 20 out of 45 of Lakha, and 30 RDs out of 45 of Dara waterways were lying dry in Johi Branch command area.
In some areas people were facing shortage of drinking water also.
Rajib Shahani of Chinni waterways had alleged the irrigation officials of diverting irrigation water to Sita and Pat sub divisions. He said that with help of irrigation officials, influential growers were stealing water.
He said some 30 RDs at tail end of Chinni water were dry for the last 10 years thus the land of his family could not be irrigated.
Another grower Shahnawaz Rodhnani said that he could not cultivate 200 acres of land in Kharif season due to the unfair distribution. Yet another of Pahore waterways, Ghulam Mohammad said that tail end growers were waiting for Chief Engineer and SE Irrigation Department to get their share of water.
An affectee Moula Bux Leghari appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari to take notice of unfair distribution of irrigation water in southern division Dadu.
Affected grower of Khariro minor, Mohammad Aslam complained that tail end Khariro minor was lying dry and he was not able to cultivate his 400 acres of land.
Grower of Pirgunio water, Mohammad Laiq said that over 2500 acres of land was affected at Pirgunio due to unfair distribution.
Abdul Fatah said that all modules were tempered with in Pirgunio waterway.
Owing to unfair distribution of water in Dadu sub division, hundreds of acres remained barren in Phakka, Khudabad and Bakhrani waterways originating from Dadu canal in Taluka Dadu.
Affected grower of Phakka waterway, Nabi Bux Channa said that since last 15 years, 40 RDs were lying dry. Grower of Khudaabad waterways, Mohammad Parial Birmani demanded of the Sindh Chief Minister to ensure judicious supply of water at the tail ends.
