Abbottabad riots: Chief justice urged to take notice of judicial inquiry

MANSEHRA, June 26 The convenor of Tehrik-i-Suba Hazara, Baba Haider Zaman, has appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the judicial inquiry into the April 12 Abbottabad riots.

“It is a strange inquiry that didn't hold responsible those officials, who ordered police to fire at innocent people but put all blame on the people. If the judiciary is independent, it should take suo motu notice of it,” Mr Zaman said, while speaking at a function of district bar association here on Saturday.

The president of district bar association, Shahjahan Khan, Sardar Mohammad Yousuf, Shazada Gustasip Khan and Tariq Khan Swati were also present on occasion.

Mr Zaman said that it was highly embarrassing and injustice with people of Hazara that so far FIR of April 12 riots was not lodged.

“How we can say that judicial commission fulfilled its responsibilities in accordance with justice as neither FIR is not lodged nor the officials, who ordered police to shoot the protesters, could be nominated in the commission's report,” he asked.

He alleged that the assembly of fake degree holders deformed the constitution for their own benefits. He said that some people were spreading propaganda against the movement's leaders. “I want to make an announcement from this rostrum that none of my colleagues attached with Tehrik would take part in general elections,” he said.

He said that the government had earmarked a meagre amount of Rs4 billion for Hazara in the budget against its share of Rs13 billion in accordance with its area and population.

“How the government would deny the fact that Mardan district received more allocation than Hazara division,” he said.

Speaking on occasion, Shahjahan Khan said that the government should create more administrative units and provinces to benefit the people.

He said that landlords and industrialists were also a hurdle in the creation of new provinces in country.
