22 `militants` arrested in Kohat operation

KOHAT, Aug 30 Police claimed to have arrested 22 suspected militants including four Afghan nationals and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession during a search operation in Kohat on Sunday.

The elite and quick response force of police took part in the five-hour long operation conducted in different parts of the district after receiving information that suspects had entered Kohat from the tribal areas to carry out subversive acts.

The operation was carried out in the jurisdiction of Saddar and Jungle Khel police stations in which heavily equipped police force entered the targeted areas under the protection of armoured personnel carriers.

The search operation supervised by District Police Officer Dilawar Khan Bangash was carried out in Dheri Banda, Pehalwan Banda, Shaheedano Banda, Rehman Banda, Ghamkol Afghan refugee camp, Sheikhan, Regi Shino Khel and Baqizai, considered 'no go areas', infested with militants and criminals.

Police seized foreign made weapons worth millions of rupees from the accused which included eight Kalashnikovs and two Kalakovs, four 12 bore repeaters, 29 rifles, 68 pistols, 95 chargers and 800 cartridges.

The arrested persons were handed over to different investigation teams for interrogation.

PROFITEERS HELD The food department arrested 37 profiteers and collected heavy fines from them during raids in Kohat on Sunday.

The price control committees conducted raids at shops selling all the essential food items in Kohat, Hangu and Karak on the orders of Commissioner Omer Khan Afridi and DIG Abdullah Khan.

During checking 37 shopkeepers were arrested and fined for selling low quality food, profiteering and not displaying price lists.

KILLED A nine-year-old Afghan labourer was killed while his younger brother was injured when hit by a truck on e Rawalpindi highway on Saturday evening.

Saddar police said that nine-year-old Pervez was returning to home along with his younger brother Shaheel when an over-speeding truck hit him. His younger brother was injured and shifted to KDA hospital for treatment.

Police reached the spot and arrested the driver, Mohammad Shoaib, resident of Jatta Ismail Khel, along with the vehicle and registered case against him.
