ISLAMABAD The final of the fifth National Women Football Championship will be played between Malavan Bandar Anzali, Iran, and Lahore's Sports Sciences Department, Punjab University, at 8.30pm at the Jinnah Stadium here on Tuesday.
This makes Anzali the second foreign team to appear in a final after Afghanistan, who went home with the silver medal in 2007 while Punjab University will be appearing in the final after a lapse of two years.
The second semi final between the guests and Wapda saw Fereshteh Karimi, Sara Ghomi Marzdahti and Hajar Shahmalekpour striking hat-tricks as Malavan Bandar Anzali FC, Iran, trounced 2006 champion Wapda 15-0.
The score was 7-0 in the first session. Midfielder Neda Abdollahzadeh broke the ice in the 14th minute and added another in the 55th minute.
Fereshteh Karimi struck her fourth hat-trick (19th, 27th, 49th and 65th minutes) in as many matches to raise her tally to 18 in the competition.
Sara Ghomi Marzdahti's hat-trick enabled her to raise her tally to 15 with goals in the 17th, 57th and 70th minute. Three-goal Hajar Shahmalekpour struck three past the Shabana Kausar-led Wapda in the 37th, 40th and 61st minutes.
Mina Hashemi and skipper Maryam Irandost slammed the ball into the cage in the 33rd and 55th minutes, respectively, to complete the 15-0 demolition.—APP
