GUJRANWALA The Civil Lines police baton-charged over a dozen people, including women, who were protesting against the registration of a murder case outside the DIG office here on Monday.

Reports said landlord Faqir Muhammad Awan was murdered at Chehal Kalan about a month ago.

Faqir's son Zahoor Ahmad told the police that his mother, Rashida Bibi, had loose morals and wanted to contract marriage.

He got a murder case registered against his mother and her accomplice(s). Zahoor alleged that his mother wanted to usurp all property and agricultural land of his father and implicate him in Faqir's murder.

On Monday, Rashida along with her five daughters, two sons and other relatives gathered outside the DIG office and protested against the registration of the murder case against her and other family members.

She demanded registration of a murder case against her son Zahoor. They were chanting slogans against the police when a team, led by an SHO, reached there, baton-charged the protesters and got traffic restored.

As a result, Rashida Bibi, her five daughters Uzan, Shamsa, Suaira, Saima, Amira and two sons Zaheer and Awais, besides Shah Bukhari, Haider Abbas, Nasir Shah were injured critically.

The police took Nasir Shah, Shabir Shah, Kausar Shah and Zaheer into custody.

DIG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema has ordered suspension of the responsible police officials and directed the crime range SP to submit a report within 12 hours.
