GUJAR KHAN A woman who was set on fire allegedly by her husband on GT Road near Gujar Khan a few days back died at a hospital in Rawalpindi. A murder case has been registered against her husband who is already in the police custody.

During the night of June 6, a burnt woman identified as Salma Bibi was brought to the tehsil headquarters hospital Gujar Khan. The woman told the police that she had contracted love marriage with Farahat Abbas Shah, a resident of Sialkot, about 10 years ago and was living with him in Rawalpindi.

She said she was ill and her husband was taking her from Rawalpindi to Sialkot on the pretext of treating her there.

She alleged that her husband stopped the car after crossing Gujar Khan city and sprinkled petrol on her body, threw her on the road and showed her a match. As a result, she sustained serious burn injuries.

After the incident, the man escaped from the scene and the injured woman was taken to the hospital by some passersby and later shifted to the Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi where she died on Thursday evening.
 
According to the investigating officer, Anwar Javed, a case under Section 324 of the PPC was registered against the accused who was arrested from the Glass Factory area of Rawalpindi. The body of the woman has been shifted to the THQ hospital for autopsy.

According to the police, she was a resident of Karachi and had eloped with Farahat Abbas Shah. The couple was living in the Glass Factory area of Rawalpindi.
