KHAIRPUR: 2 fertiliser-loaded trucks impounded

KHAIRPUR, Jan 28 Two trucks loaded with fertiliser were impounded and a godown sealed in a crackdown against its black marketing on Wednesday.

The EDO Revenue, Ahmed Ali Qureshi told Dawn that he received information about the involvement of in-charge Utility Store, near Food Godown Khairpur, in urea black marketing. The in-charge was allegedly stealing fertiliser from the godown and then selling the same in black, he said.

The DDO on EDO's directive raided the Utility Store but could not find the in-charge as the store was locked. The EDO, on Wednesday received information of a fertiliser truck being off-loaded at a private godown which Gambat's Mukhtiarkar caught from the spot after raid, and disposed of the stuff at official rate, there and then.

Mukhtiarkar of Sobhodero on directives from the EDO raided Ranipur and impounded two trucks which were being loaded with urea. The trucks were taken to Ranipur police station while the EDO told Mukhtiarkar to sell fertiliser at government rate.

The EDO also directed the DDO Revenue Khairpur to lodge a case against in-charge Utility Store Khairpur who remained away for two days.

However, growers' of Luqman protested the closure of store.

CONDOLENCE A condolence meeting was held at the Senate Hall of the Shah Abdul Latif University here on Wednesday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nilofer Shaikh said that the services of late Dr Ahmed Hassan Dani to academicians and in research would always be remembered.

She added that Dr Dani had established the Department of Archaeology in SALU and many teachers had been the students of Dr Dani.
