Young boxer dies in ring

HYDERABAD, Aug 17 A young boxer, Hyder Ali — the paternal nephew of former Olympian, Asghar Ali Shah, died on Sunday evening during a bout in the second round of the Independence Day Inter-club boxing tournament organised by District Boxing Association Hyderabad.

According to Vice President, Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Iqbal Hussain, 16-year-old Ali collapsed in the ring and stopped breathing during his bout against Owais.

“We took him to a nearby private hospital and then to civil hospital where a doctor pronounced him dead,” said the PBF official.

His elder brother, Hussain Ali Shah had won a silver medal in the 54kg category at the 23rd National Boxing Championship held recently in Karachi.—Correspondent
