National U-17 judo from June 12
LAHORE, May 28 National Under-17 Judo Championship for boys and girls will be held in Peshawar from June 12.
Players from all the four provinces, Capital Territory, Fata and the top four departments, namely, Army, Wapda, Police and Railways will take part in the event.
The judokas will fight in the following weight categories.
Boys 45kg, 50kg, 56kg, 60kg, 66kg, 73kg, 81kg and open weight.
Girls 36kg, 40kg, 44kg, 48kg, 52kg, 56kg and open weight.
The championship is being organised with an aim to spot promising judokas for Pakistan who will take part in the upcoming 2010 JIKJI Cup International Junior Judo Tournament to be held in South Korea on July 10.
The PJF has formed a five-member selection committee headed by Masood Ahmed, who is also the federation's secretary general, to scrutinise the players. Other members of the committee are Zulfiqar Ahmed, Ameer Mukhtar, Liaqat Ali, and Mohammad Younis.
Meanwhile, from June 1, the PJF will also hold a training camp in Peshawar for U-17 players. One top-ranked promising boy will be sent to Bangkok for further training at the completion of camp.
