National Clay Court tennis: Sara clinches title, vows to maintain form

ISLAMABAD, Oct 17 Sara Mansoor clinched the girls' singles title of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court tennis championship at the PTF Complex here on Saturday.

The winner remained confident from the very first serve and trounced her opponent Saba Aziz in straight sets.

Saba, the fourth seed, could not contain some down the line winners struck by emerging Sara, who claimed the first set 6-3.

She continued with the same fashion winning the second set 6-2.

“I was confident right from the start of the match that I'll give a tough time to my opponent,” Sara told Dawn after winning her first national title.

She added “I have successfully ended a title-less drought in my six-year career and now my top priority is to maintain the current winning streak.”

Meanwhile, Aqeel Khan is all set to face brother Jalil in the men's singles final after winning his semi-final against Asim Shafik.

Aqeel won the match 6-2, 6-4. Asim played well but could not match the expertise of the top seed.

In the second semi-final, Jalil Khan beat energetic Heera Ashiq after a close encounter.

Jalil won the first set easily. Heera, however, gave him tough time in the second but could not stop him from winning it 7-6(9).

Heera, though failed against Jalil, managed to reached the boys' under-17 final after beating Zohair Raza in straight sets.

Samir Iftikhar was the other player who reached the final. He defeated Sadan-ul-Haq 6-1, 6-2.

In the boys' under-13 competition, Kashan-ul-Haq reached the final after beating Hasnain Manzoor 5-4, 5-4.

He will face Saad Zafar in the final who defeated Imad Amir in the second semi-final.

Samir Iftikhar bt Sadan-ul-Haq 6-1, 6-2; Heera Ashiq bt Zohair Raza 6-1, 6-2.

Boys' U-13

Kashan-ul-Haq bt Hasnain Manzoor 5-4, 5-4; Saad Zafar bt Imad Amir 4-2, 4-1.
