KU win basketball honours

KARACHI, March 27 Karachi University overcame some anxious moments posting a nail-biting 52-48 victory over NED University in the final to win the Pakistan Day Inter-University basketball tournament at Arambagh floodlit court on Friday.

The match which had many ups and downs from the start to the final hooter kept the spectators on their toes.

KU, which trailed 8-9 at the end of first quarter, led 18-16 at half time as the two teams accumulated 10 and 7 points, respectively.

The third quarter saw both teams playing neck-and-neck adding 15 points apiece to their tally while KU ended up the last quarter on winning note 19-17.

Asad Iqbal was the only KU player who scored in double figures (10). He was supported by Agha Ibrahim (9), M. Shabbar (8), Haroon Khan and Adnan Ali seven apiece.

Habibullah and Shahryar Zahoor contributed 12 and 11 while Ali Hafeez scored 9 for losers.

Haroon Khan received the winning trophy from Town Nazim, Saddar Town, Mohammad Dilawar while the runners up trophy was received by S. M. Sarim.

Speaking on the occasion, the town nazim assured to give a facelift to the premises.
