India gets security approval: World Badminton
NEW DELHI, April 16 Badminton's world governing body has granted security approval for Hyderabad to host the world championships in August.
V.K. Verma, president of the Badminton Association of India, said on Thursday the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has endorsed the security arrangements for the Aug 10-16 worlds to be staged in the southern Indian city.
“An appraisal of arrangements for the world championships was conducted by the BWF's security consultants, who submitted a report to the world body,” Verma said.
“The report was presented to the BWF's executive board during its recent meeting in Basel, where the Indian organisers were given a go-ahead for the world championships.”
He said the organisers would now hire a security coordinator for the event. Security concerns over sports events in South Asia have been raised recently after a terror attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan.—AP
