Benazir to Return after ‘homework’

LAHORE, May 1: Secretary general Jehangir Badr has said PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto will be advised to return home only after doing proper homework by the central committee.

Speaking at a seminar on “Situation in Pakistan and the labour class” here on Thursday, he however urged party office-bearers as well as workers to complete their contingency plan to cope with any emergency as no time-frame could be set for any action in politics.

Referring to the opposition by the government to Ms Bhutto’s return, he said the workers should keep in mind that the popular leader’s arrival meant departure of someone else and wrapping up of the system that was “usurping people’s rights.”

Mr Badr said self-styled leaders with bogus educational credentials could not block the way of the people’s leader until the masses were aware that which leader could lead them to the right path and what should be their direction on a national issue.

He claimed that only the PPP has roots among the masses and the rest of others were pro-establishment and “drawing-room parties.”

Punjab president Qasim Zia said all wings of the party had been directed to hold weekly meetings for creating an atmosphere for the return of Ms Bhutto.

He said the party’s refusal to form government on the terms of the “powers that matter” had proved that it did not want to come into power on expediency basis.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Altaf Qureshi, Naveed Chaudhry, Munir Gilani, Abdul Qadir Shaheen, Abdul Qadeer Khamosh, Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas, Mirza Fazal Elahi and Shahida Jabeen.
