ISLAMABAD: Despite ban, fishing in Rawal Dam still continued through rods, strings, hooks and nets.

It is the time for fish to lay eggs, therefore fishing poses threat to their existence in the dam.

But illegal fishing still continued in the dam in the name of fun but behind this fun, hunters have their commercial objectives.

The makeshift fish stalls set up in adjoining areas of the lake clearly indicate that the fishers have commercial motive, Aamir alleged.

Talking to this agency, the residents of the area said that the officials of police and Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) were minting money from the people in the name of fishing licence.

Aamir Riaz, a resident, alleged money received in this regard was not submitted to the national exchequer.

Khalid Sharif, who visits the lake on weekends, said he had brought the matter into the notice of the CDA officials but they denied its jurisdiction over the dam and said Wasa is the relevant authority, so I also informed Wasa, but to no avail, he added.— APP
