PML-N candidate well ahead in PP-196 by-poll: unofficial results

MULTAN: According to unofficial results announced by returning officers after the by-poll in Multan's PP-196 constituency, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Rana Mahmodul Hassan was leading with 30,278 votes.
The unofficial result that comprises 133 polling stations puts Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Rana Abdul Jabbar as the runner up with 19,321 votes. Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Mohammad Hussain Araein was at third spot, bagging 7,334 votes.
A total of 14 candidates contested the by-poll, including 10 independent candidates.
According to an election commission official in Multan, there are 176,315 registered voters in the constituency including 96,121 male and 80,194 female voters. Turnout was around 33 per cent, said the official.
The Punjab Assembly seat was vacated after PML-N's provincial minister for prisons— Abdul Waheed Araein— was disqualified for holding two CNICs.

PTI accepts defeat
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said his party had accepted defeat in the PP-196 by-election with an open heart.
While talking to media personnel, he said PTI respected the masses' opinion, adding that PTI workers had not violated any code of conduct and acted on party instructions to keep the process peaceful.
But the winning candidate, alleged Qureshi, had used support of government machinery.

Its high time that PTI should start performing because this is just the beginning of what is to come.
I kept on pointing out in my posts that just talks on hot topics won't get them anywhere. Its time to focus on performance. Massive U turns and lack of performance are driving people away from PTI.

As I had earlier said that Multanis would go with PML N the ruling party.The ruling government is in a position to spend money on Multan and not PTI.

@Rehan What do you want to understand? You need to look at Peoples local issues, how real people live in real world and their problems. How are they connected to the system and their local leaders etc. Fact is that PMLN is deeply rooted with in people of Punjab and they understand local issues. They got vote in 2013 which was disrespected and its simply a reaction that is now coming out. If any one that wants to beat PMLN, needs to perform and give people an alternative model. Giving Dharnas and making lives of people misreable, using foul language for Nawaz Sharif, Calling out / demonising Judges, Police will not help Imran. For now its PMLN that is the strongest and largest party. Imran needs to accept defeat.

I voted for a change in last election. I voted for PTI.
I would really request IK to please concentrate on development works and forget about the Dharna politics. Today's Pakistan is aware thanks to you..... but then again they are also aware of what your policies are and what are your preferences. I would love to see some projects / works on ground in KPK at the end of the 5 year tenure so that I can convince myself to vote for you again. For the time being, this election result shows that people are loosing interest in your policies and preferences.
On the other hand continue your opposition work so that government remains on its toes. I am an engineer involved in construction of couple of mega projects in Punjab and I can tell you one thing that PML-N is seriously determined to complete many ongoing projects. I would love to see the same intent in your province.
After all people only voted for change, but for the time being I can see a change in PML-N instead of PTI. Best of luck
