Clashes break in Srinagar as Kashmiri students chant pro-Pakistan slogans

ISLAMABAD: Clashes broke out in Indian-held Kashmir on Sunday when Kashmiri students chanted pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom slogans at the venue of a marathon in Srinagar.
Footage showed the university students as chanting “Pakistan! Pakistan!” and pro-freedom slogans at the venue of the 'Big Kashmir Marathon' in Hazratbal area of Srinagar as Indian forces fired tear-gas shells and baton charged the young demonstrators, a news channel reported while quoting Kashmir Media Service (KMS).
The 21-kilometre marathon was scheduled to begin from Naseem Bagh at the Kashmir University and go along the scenic Dal Lake.

Kashmiri youth shouted slogans in favour of freedom and pelted rocks on the forces guarding the venue in the varsity. Police and paramilitary forces fired teargas shells on protesters at Habak crossing near the venue.
Speaking to a news channel (Geo News), senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani said that under the influence of power, the Indian administration has been ignoring reality on the ground in held Kashmir.
“If they had taken notice, then the armed occupation would have ended a long time ago,” he told the news channel.

The youth marathon comes after two days of strikes in Indian Held Kashmir on the call of Hurriyat leaders.
The organisers said the aim of the 'Big Kashmir Marathon', in which professional runners from outside India also participated, was to promote healthy lifestyle and raise awareness.

@Gujral. : The Great Indian "democratic" union which also happens to be the largest democracy in the world has failed to listen to the people of Kashmir. The Kashmiris have been saying it for almost 7 decades, so I say to the Indian Union: please have respect for yourself and free them because they do not want to live as part of your union.

The world, the kashmiris, the pakistanis, the UN, the U.S. know it, that kashmiris want their plebiscite and freedom from oppressive occupation forces of India. But the Indian media, government and army have put a veil of deceit around its own populace, giving them lies and misinformation ,to ensure they do not see reality and to avoid them asking for Kashmiris to be given their UN plebiscite.

i am from kashmir i prayed for a successful event but it didn't happen. But this type of reaction was expected because kashmiri youth wanna raise k issue to world wide, as foreign athlete's were also participating so youth throw stones to show them we want freedom... Discuss this issue in your countries so that world will come to know about k issue.

@Raina from Kashmir I don't think they are much wrong there if they want their right of self determination and want to raise the issue at the world level. Had there not been oppression against them for decades the issue would've been settled long ago. Suppressing their right to self determination is the wrong way to go about it.

It ought to be very much in Indian interest to solve kashmir issue according to wishes of Kashmiri people. Nehru lal promised to the world, but he was liar and made whole world fool.
Kashmir unsolved issue will encourage further other movements to intensify their desire for freedom

I remember very well. A couple of years ago the famous Indian journalist visited kashmir. After her visit she said. " Kashmir is are living under the most brutal occupation of Indian army". She also added. "What I have said is the say of millions in kashmir". Kashmir and kashmiris belong to Pakistan.

I m secular. I harbour no ill feelings against Muslims nor Pakistan. I am Indian stay in Bangalore. I have one question for Kashmiri's- Do you want to be part of Pakistan? One question for Pakistan- do you really feel for Kashmiri's- would you really make them your own? One question to india- if both the above are yes- is it worth keeping Kashmir with us? I have heard set your love free- if it comes back its yours or it never was. To Pakistan- if the answer in majority to the first question is NO- will you leave Kashmir to be free n peaceful?

@Raj. I have many Indian friends and they are all very good guys but for the first time I have heard a very sensible voice from india in yourself, suggesting some thing very democratic. I think this is what both Pakistan and India needs to do. Ask people of Kashmir what they want, to be independent or if they want to join Pakistan or India and there wishes should be respected by all parties involved.

@Ash20 I doubt Pakistan's external influence has much to do with it. What you can't suppress in 68 years with full force and brutal oppression, what makes you think you can all of a sudden will be able to do it. Majority of them don't support India in anything. Get pragmatic, give them right of self determination. Have some shame and honor the promise of Jawahar Lal Nehru, which he backed off of. Kashmiris are real people, the main casualty in this conflict. Kashmir is not a Real Estate for India or Pakistan to decide bilaterally without presence of Kashmiri representation, hence India's stance is ludicrous at best.

Pakistan has Azad Kashmir-are people more happy there? Do they have all the opportunities, education etc. what Government of India is providing to the people of Kashmir? I met lot of Pakistanis but none of them from Azad Kashmir. I yet to meet some one from there and hear from them directly about the situation in Pakistani Kashmir.

@kamran Dream on. On the contrary you make keep on losing some provinces of Pakistan. Remember those who dig hole for others they themselves fall into it. There is no better example than Pakistan which has already lost half of the country and if the policy of training and abetting of terrorist it might lose more of it. It is not too late to take care of these state or non-state actors sooner than later as they are nobody's friend.
