Security forces on Saturday took into custody two brothers of Anwaarul Haq, the alleged facilitator of the Feb 13 suicide bombing in Lahore, from their residence in Bajaur Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), security sources said.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had announced Haq's arrest in a press conference on Friday evening. The suspect's confessional statement was also aired during the briefing.
Acting on information provided by intelligence agencies, security personnel on Saturday raided Haq's house in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur Agency, security sources said.
Haq's two brothers Khalilullah and Hameedullah were taken into custody during the raid.
Several others were nabbed from the area during the operation and shifted to an unknown location for interrogation, the sources added.
In his press conference, the Punjab chief minister claimed to have eliminated the terrorist network involved in Monday’s suicide attack in Lahore in which 15 people were killed.
Shahbaz said the facilitator, Anwaarul Haq, had divulged that their network was operating from within Afghanistan.
The suspect in the confessional video said he hailed from a remote village in Bajaur Agency.
“I was associated with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and they trained me,” said the suspect, adding that he has visited Afghanistan around 15 to 20 times.

Punjab Safe city project and enhanced Punjab CTD ( Counter Terrorism Department) is bearing its fruit. The whole location and activity of the attackers was traced through footages, cell phone traces and sensors around the location. Anyway supporters of Imran Khan will find one way or another to bash Punjab and will find faults in the arrest of terrorists as well.

@AwaN The security systems are put into place to avoid human losses, and not to nab perpetrators after they have done the damage. In Balochistan, the killers of the advocates were apprehended after some coercion by the judicial commission, even without sophisticated systems in place.

This proves that our agencies are well informed and efficient to nab terrorists promptly. That is, the capability is there to eradicate terrorism, BUT someone somewhere within, does not want the suffering of ordinary citizens to end, or the country to progress.

without purging corruption it is not possible to deny documents and entries to Afghan nationals and as long as we do not deport all Afghans the peace in Pakistan is impossible. For this, the help of local Pakhtoons is a must. Until and unless they do not stand up against Afghans and start disowning them, it is hard to deport all Afghans. The government should make it responsibility of local Pakhtoons to identify Afghans living on valid Pakistani documents for ages or have become part of the local families and deport them without any consideration. Afghans and Afghanistan have always hated Pakistan, starting from its creation when they refused to recognize it as a separate state and Talibinization has further heated their hatred. They need to return to their homeland to pay the price for peace as it does not come without a fight

It may sound cynical, but if there is yet another terror attack anywhere in the country in coming days, followed by 'arrest' of suspected militants and facilitators within hours of the incident, will that mean anything to anyone?
The lives that are lost can never be revived by arrest of a thousand such militants. The failure of the security agencies, and lack of preventive measures, pro-active rather than re-active forces, can only lead to inevitable.
What good does it to do to the families of the dead and injured, with the arrested of the alleged ringleaders AFTER every such event?
How many such attacks have been stopped in their tracks by Pakistanis agencies? How many such arrests have been made, how much infrastructure and arms, ammunition ceased in such raids?
Why do these attacks continue to take place, unabated all the time, if the government had been successful in its efforts and had a concrete plan of action?
Simply put NAP is a failure.

@FAREED HUSSAIN Whilst I agree with you up to some extent I don't think that would be fair. I think all the Afghans who have valid documents and a Pakistani resident can confirm that they are not a threat to anyone then they should be allowed to return. If anyone gets involved in terrorism then they should be made aware that their family would be picked up too and that may prove to be the biggest deterrent.

@Brekhna Please note that even in America security cameras could not prevent Boston bombing. Same was the case in UK subway bomb blast however, the cameras helped in identifying the culprits.
The proactive action in most oof the countries was taken in casess whereby intelligence was provided by a common man to the agencies. this is what is lacking within our society. We always looks towards others and consume all our energies in finding faults with others absolving ourselves from all the responsibilities.

Terrorists facilitators were picked up, but the courts will let them off as judges are scared of terrorists. That's why military courts are needed for swift justice. Why do some political parties oppose military courts, because they support terrorists killing innocent people of Pakistan. Such politicians should be arrested and prosecuted under the law. No country in the world would tolerate any politician supporting terrorism.

I am deeply skeptical about these so called video confessions. Believe me this is nothing but a theater. There is no transparency. They can simply pick up anyone and make him confess under duress. If our LEAs were that efficient, we would not have the menace of terrorism in the first place.

Problem is that most of the Afghans residing in Pakistan have Pakistani documents - some real and many fake. There are some corrupt people within NADRA that sells them Pakistani ID cards - the rate was Rs. 10,000 per card as far back as 2010. To give these illegals more legitimacy these same corrupt NADRA employees will also add them to the "family trees" of bonafide Pakistani citizens. This happend to me and it has been over 3 years and I have been unable to remove this person (of Afghan origin) from our family tree! My advice to everyone is to request your family tree from NADRA and confirm that it has no unauthorized additions. It has many negative legal consequences that my family is going through after the death of our parents.
