Indian troops targeted a vehicle of the Pakistan Army moving along the Neelum River at Athmuqam on Sunday. "The vehicle fell into the river and four soldiers embraced martyrdom in the Line of Control (LoC) ceasefire violation,” said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The body of one martyred soldier has been recovered while search for the other three is underway.
The attack was similar to an earlier assault on a civilian bus in the same area last year, according to the army's media wing.
The ISPR said that Pakistani forces had responded to the ceasefire violation.
Earlier this year in June, during a National Assembly's Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs meeting, director general of the Disaster Management Authority said that unprovoked firing by Indian forces across the LoC had taken 832 lives while 3,000 people had been injured and 3,300 houses had been damaged.

Both Pakistan and India should realize the reality on the ground. Neither side is capable of getting the other's half of Kashmir. Both sides know it but are somehow incapable of accepting it. It would make world of difference to the population of both countries if they end this age-old problem. Recognize the LoC as international boundary, sign a peace treaty, and resume all civilized forms of neighborly behavior. That's the best solution for this seventy-year old animosity and periodic recurring wars. That's the only solution.

Really saddened. Four lives snuffed. What a tragic and unnecessary loss of life. Will they ever listen to us, the common people. How long are they going to continue this madness. With every soldier killed, one family is killed. Who is gaining in this process? Politicians or the country? No, neither of them. There is always ONLY LOSER in war. Nobody wins a war - both side lose their people. When will both government realize this? Why can't you both sit and solve this issue forever? Who wants mountain peaks? who want the desert? who want the deadly forests? What are you going to get by taking over a mountain or the forest where nobody can live? Why not we create a NO-MAN's land of 5-10 width across the border and leave it as it is? Let both sides live peacefully, these soldiers are human beings, they have their family and children to be taken care of.
