Bank borrowings rise

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended November 10, deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs11,707.279 billion after a 0.65 per cent decrease over the preceding week’s figure of Rs11,783.372bn.

Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs10,401.843bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 12.55pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs11,617.127bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs11,694.161bn, showing a decline of 0.66pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs90.153bn, higher by 1.06pc against previous week’s figure of Rs89.210bn.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs16,724.007bn, higher by 0.73pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs16,602.490bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 18.25pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs14142.590bn.

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs16,437.250bn, higher by 0.70pc over previous week’s figure of Rs16,322.326bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs286.757bn, were higher 2.35pc over the previous week’s Rs.280.164bn.

Total assets of all scheduled banks rose by 0.73pc

Borrowings by all scheduled banks increased in the week under review. It rose by 6.28pc to Rs2,840.467bn against previous week’s Rs2,672.467bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs1,718.535bn, current week’s figure is higher by 65.28pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs2,740.270bn were higher by 6.33pc against previous week’s Rs2,577.105bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs100.676bn against the previous week’s figure of Rs95.362bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs8,401.986bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs8,340.840bn, higher by 0.73pc. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7,184.678bn, current week’s figure is higher by 16.94pc.

Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs8,312.948bn, higher by 0.63pc against preceding week’s figure of Rs8,260.693bn, whereas investment by all specialised banks stood at Rs.89.038bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs80.147bn.
