ISLAMABAD: Two days after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s transit visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is reaching Islamabad on Friday (today) on a three-day official visit.
The state-run news agency APP quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying as saying during a regular press briefing in Beijing that the Chinese foreign minister would be visiting Pakistan from Sept 7 to 9 at the invitation of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Besides meeting his Pakistani counterpart, Mr Wang is likely to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and president-elect Arif Alvi during his stay in Islamabad to have discussions on bilateral issues with focus on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects.
“Wang Yi will also meet the main leaders of Pakistani side and exchange views on bilateral relations, regional as well as international issues of mutual interest,” the spokesperson said without elaborating. It is not clear if the Chinese minister also plans to have meetings with the leaders of opposition parties, including the PML-N and PPP.
Hua Chunying said China and Pakistan were all-weather, strategic and cooperative partners and their bilateral ties had been developing at sound momentum.
“We have seen frequent high-level exchanges and political cooperation is also moving forward and there are rich outcomes from CPEC,” the spokesperson reportedly said.
The visit of the Chinese FM has acquired significance as it is taking place days after a similar visit by top US officials in which both countries agreed to reset their ties and reached an understanding that the Trump administration and the new Pakistani government would try to deliver on each other’s expectations.

Americans come and talk about things of interest to them, Chinese come and talk about things of interest to them. Does Pak only exist to take care of everyone else's interests.
Do people know what is in best interest of them? Who decides about these interests on behalf of people? Are they doing the job properly? Should they hand over this job to officers more capable of doing it?
Why look at every relationship from security prism?

I hope CPEC is discussed in detail. CPEC must be made a benefit and not a burden to Pakistan. Pakistan must ask for revision of interest rates to international standards or better. India received loan from Japan for 1% or close.If nothing is done it will damage friendship in the long run, like it is happening with Malaysia and Sri Lanka. . So it is in everyone's interest to make it really useful for both. Pakistan is important for China, just as India has become important for America. Three days of visit by China's FM verses few hours by American tells a story. One must be candid and keep our interest in mind even between countries.Fair and the right path is the best way. @wsyed : Japan gave loans for bullet train to India at a rate of interest of 0.1 % -- not 1%. That is practically a grant. CPEC loans should also be partly converted into grants.

@Zak the aim of giving loan at .1pc is to benefit both, as highly technical component will be manufactured in Japan which will enhance their growth. At the same time India will be benefited virtually investing nothing but employing skilled and unskilled menpower and available mechanical and electrical component of the project where repayment will start after 20 year.
As Indian I donot support bullet train in India. It is viable for small highly urbanized countries like Japan, Franc etc. Even Chinese bullet trains are running with high govt subsidy which they can but no new plan to expand, only already planned projects are going on there.
The suit part of the Japan- India deal is its moratorium period and transfer of technology. Pakistan has every leverage in its hand to bring the Chinese to their knee beacuse all other options to reach Indian ocean are gradually closing on behest of US and India. Why Pakistan is not renegotiating the cpec deals is a mystry to us indian. Better late than never. Hope your sanity prevail.
