Sahib-e-Asra, Uzair Rehman win gold medals in 100m

ISLAMABAD: On opening day of National Athletics Championship, Wapda’s Sahib-e-Asra and Army’s Uzair Rehman won gold medals by covering the distance in 11.60 and 10:66 seconds in 100-metre race at the men and women events respectively here at the Jinnah Stadium, Sports Complex on Friday.

Wapda and Army athletes dominated on first day as Wapda clinched nine gold medals followed by Army athletes with six gold.

Wapda’s Raiba Ashiq won two gold in 10000-metre and 800-metre races while their athletes Zenat Parveen won gold in Shot Put and Fatima Hussain won gold (39:13). While in men events Muhammad Waqas won gold in triple jump (15:13) and their athletes Shafqat Ali won gold in shot put (16:94) and Muhammad Akarm won top position in 800 meter race with ( 1:52.26)

For Army’s Rameez Javed Mirza won gold medal in 5000 meter race with covering the distance in (14:57:07), Sidra Bashir won gold in Pole Vault (2.80) while Rehan Anjum won gold in pole vault men event with ( 4.70) score for Army. Similarly, country’s promising athlete Mehboob Ali won gold for Army in 400 meter race by covering the distance in 46:49 seconds. Similarly Maria Maratab won gold for Army in triple jump contest with (11:91) score. Shams-ul-Haq won gold for PAF in Discus Throw (52.85)while for Rubab won only gold for HEC in High Jump Women with 1.56.

In the three-day event, a total of 23 competitions of men and 21 for women will be organized in which teams from PAF, Navy, Wapda, Railway, Higher Education Commission, Punjab, Sindh, KP, Balochistan, Islamabad, Fata, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan will be participating.
