PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has ordered speedy establishment of shelter homes at all the divisional headquarters.

He was presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister Secretariat here on Friday. Principal secretary to chief minister, Mohammad Israr, secretary social welfare and other officials concerned attended the meeting.

Mr Mahmood was briefed about the arrangements in existing shelter homes, utilisation of zakat funds, Sehat Insaf cards and other activities being run under the social welfare department.

The meeting was told that centres for treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts were near completion, and each centre had capacity for treating 40 drug addicts at a time.

Rehabilitation of women crisis centres was also discussed.

The chief minister said he would soon visit the women crisis centres, the centres for rehabilitation of drug addicts, food authority and performance management and reforms unit, where all the required facilities should be ensured. He said the Pajaggi road shelter home would be upgraded on sustainable basis.

He ordered efficient utilisation of zakat funds to cover school fee and uniforms for orphans. He also ordered reconstitution of the zakat council.
