NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Dozens of passengers were injured when the locomotive and three coaches of the Bahauddin Zakaria Express derailed near Mehrabpur railway station on Thursday.

The train was on its way to Punjab when it met with the accident a little distance from the Mehrabpur railway station. Initial reports suggested that the accident was caused by brake failure.

The injured were taken to different hospitals of Naushahro Feroze district. Officials of the district administration and area police rushed to the accident site and carried out relief and rescue operation along with a large number of train passengers and residents of the adjacent localities.

The station master told local reporters that a technical fault caused failure of brakes.

Rail traffic at the Mehrabpur sector remained suspended for a few hours to facilitate operation to bring the derailed locomotive and coaches back on tracks.
