ISLAMABAD: The former secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad, has been appointed chairman of the Federal Land Commission.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), Mr Muhammad would enjoy the status of a federal minister.

Known as the architect of the last five-year strategic plan of the ECP, Mr Muhammad was serving as the federal secretary of the Cabinet Division.

He also held positions of the chief secretary of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. His name was on top of the list of the government’s nominees for the position of Chief Election Commissioner but had to be replaced with a new name after the opposition’s objection to his nomination.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner M.J. Sikandar Sultan Raja has appointed Manzoor Ahmad Malik, a retired BPS-21 officer of the Pakistan Audit and Account Services, as the additional secretary (admin) of the ECP for two years on contract basis.
