RAWALPINDI: Three new High Courts will be established for the four new provinces of West Pakistan with effect from July 1 next, according to a Presidential Order issued here.

The Courts will be (A) Peshawar High Court for NWFP with its principal seat at Peshawar, (B) Lahore High Court for the Punjab with principal seat at Lahore, and (C) Sind and Baluchistan High Court with principal seat at Karachi. The Order says that the provinces of Sind and Baluchistan had agreed to have a common High Court.

Called the High Courts (Establishment) Order, 1970, (President’s Order No. Eight of 1970) it provides that the New High Courts will exercise powers and authority in their respective territories as now being exercised by the West Pakistan High Court. The West Pakistan High Court will cease to exist with the formal dissolution of West Pakistan Province.

The new Courts, the Order says, may also hold Circuit Courts at places other than the principal seats within their respective territorial jurisdiction. …

The Order, coming into force at once, also deals with the appointment of Judges, seals of High Courts, forms of writs etc, powers of Chief Justice and other Judges and enforcement of orders of the West Pakistan High Court. — Agency
