DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A man was killed and his brother and father were injured when some armed men opened fire on them over irrigation water issue in a remote village here on Monday, the police said.

Dera police spokesman Syed Yaqoob Bukhari said a man, namely Bagal, 57, reported that when he along with his sons stopped their neighbours from diverting rainwater to their agricultural land, they opened fire, leaving his son, Shoaib, dead on the spot.

He said he himself and his other son, Akhtar Khan were injured.

The body and the injured were shifted to Mufti Mahmood Hospital, Dera.

On the complaint of Bagal, the Khoi Bahara police registered a case against Inayatullah, his sons Shaukat Khan and Sharafat Khan, and two brothers, Attaullah and Akram Khan.

Meanwhile, armed robbers deprived a cattle trader of Rs77,000, a mobile phone and other valuables in Adda Kulachi Wala area in the limits of Gomal University police station, an official said on Monday.

The official said Yousaf Baloch, a resident of Wanda Balochanwala, was present at Kulachi Adda after selling his cattle when unknown robbers came on a motorcycle and snatched the money from him and escaped.

The police registered a case against unknown robbers.

Separately, the police on Monday arrested a man and recovered a rifle and drugs from his possession.

A team of Shaheed Nawab police station stopped a suspected person at a road blockade and recovered a 12-bore rifle, five cartridges and 510 gram hashish from him.

The accused was identified as Mohammad Imran of Paniala area.
