SHANGLA: Two minor siblings died after allegedly consuming poisonous mushrooms in Mir Kanai Chawga area of Puran tehsil, local residents said on Monday.

They identified the deceased as two-year-old Wajiha Ishaq and four-year-old Fajar Ishaq, daughters of Mohammad Ishaq.

They told Dawn on Monday that they had taken the children to hospital after their condition deteriorated, where doctors said both of them might have consumed some poisonous substance. They said one of the girls told her father at the hospital that they both had consumed some plants in the fields outside their house. The locals said both the children died during treatment.

Also in the day, a young boy died after being bitten by a snake in Chakesar area.

Locals said Aminullah, 11, was bitten by a snake near his house. They said the boy was shifted to a hospital in Swat, where he died.

Meanwhile, several children were brought to the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri, the other day after they were bitten by stray dogs in Ranyal area.

Alpuri assistant commissioner Naveed Ahmad told journalists on Sunday that several children aged 6-10 were brought to the health facility with their attendants saying they were attacked by stray dogs when they were returning home from school.

He said he had directed the hospital’s management to immediately administer them with the anti-rabies vaccine.

He said he had directed the livestock department to eliminate the stray dogs from the areas.

Separately, two persons were injured after their motorcycle skidded off the Bisham-Swat Road in Dehrai area of Alpuri the other day.

Rescue 1122 spokesman Rasool Khan Sharif told Dawn that a medical team provided them with first aid and then shifted them to the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri.
