ABBOTTABAD: Juvenile justice committees have been formed in Haripur and Mansehra districts, and such a body for Abbottabad district would also be set up soon.

This was stated by senior lawyer Saeed Akhtar Advocate while addressing a seminar on juvenile justice system organised by a Lahore-based NGO, Sanjog, at the district bar room here on Saturday.

The seminar was part of a series of workshops organised by the NGO in different bar associations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to create awareness amongst people from all walks of life, specially the legal fertility, about the juvenile justice system.

On the occasion, Chaudhry Waheed Advocate, a senior lawyer and chairman child protection committee, Lahore Bar Association, said that that juvenile justice committee would consist of four members, including a judicial magistrate, district public prosecutor, member of local bar having at least seven years standing and probation officer or social welfare officer to be appointed by the district and sessions judge concerned for a period of two years.

A large number of lawyers, social activists, former judges, probation officers, child protection officers and citizens participated in the seminar.

Abbottabad District Bar Association President Sardar Basharat also attended the session.

Social welfare officer Saira, child protection officer Farzna Jadoon and adviser to federal ombudsman Khalid Saeed also spoke on the occasion.

Later, Sardar Basharat distributed certificates and shields among the participants.
