GUJAR KHAN: A former armyman was killed while his wife and daughter were injured when unknown assailants opened fire on them near Lillah interchange in Pind Dadan Khan on Monday.

The family was travelling to Chakwal to visit the armyman’s married daughter.

According to the first information report (FIR) registered on the compliant of the deceased’s brother, Mohammad Ayub, principal of Commerce College, Pind Dadan Khan, retired Brig Amir Hamza was travelling to Chakwal with his wife and daughter to visit another daughter on the evening of the first day of Eid.

Mr Ayub said he and his cousin were also travelling on a motorcycle some distance behind his brother’s car, adding that four persons on motorcycles approached the vehicle after overtaking it from the left side and tried to stop it. He said the assailants sitting behind the riders opened indiscriminate fire with 44-bore rifles, hitting his brother on the head, shoulders and chest.

The victim’s daughter, Muskan, suffered wounds on both her arms and leg, while his wife was hit on her arms.

The complainant said his brother died on the spot while the attackers fled from the scene after confirming that the former armyman was dead.

According to Rescue 1122 sources, the body of the retired brigadier was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Pind Dadan Khan for postmortem while the injured victims were shifted to CMH Rawalpindi after being provided first aid at the trauma centre in Kallar Kahar.

When Jhelum police were contacted on Wednesday, they confirmed that no arrest had so far been made.
