ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday announced the upgradation of National Police Academy.

He was visiting the academy where he conducted a detailed inspection of hostels and mess, as well reviewed the facilities provided to the probationers.

During his visit, he met the under-training officers and inquired about the facilities. He also visited the officers’ mess, where he had a meal, checked its quality, and praised the food.

He directed that high-standard residential facilities should be provided to probationary officers and also sought the master plan for the National Police Academy.

Mr Naqvi stated that a new master plan for the academy should be prepared by an international consultant. He announced that a check of Rs250 million from the National Police Foundation would be handed over to the academy soon.

He said the academy should be made a financially autonomous institution. He directed the academy management that the re-organisation of the National Police Academy should be completed within three months.

He also emphasised that all necessary measures must be taken immediately to grant the status of university to the academy.

Mr Naqvi underscored the need to update ASP courses according to modern requirements. He also announced the addition of new courses on counter-terrorism, anti-riots, cyber, and other fields at the academy.

He said that the best officers would be appointed at the academy, like the Military Academy Kakul. He said that officers appointed at the police academy would receive better allowances and facilities.

He said that a model police station and training laboratories would also be established at the academy to provide training to the officers in this regard.

The minister also chaired an important meeting to discuss the re-organisation of the police academ.

He said that the National Police Academy would be transformed into an institution of international standard, attracting officers from other countries for training.
