ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police recovered a large quantity of drugs, illegal weapons and arrested two suspects.

The NHMP said on Tuesday that its officials demonstrated high professionalism and bravery near Chichawatni on GT Road and recovered the drugs and illegal weapons from a car and apprehended two suspects.

It said the NHMP signaled a suspicious speeding car with tinted glasses to stop for checking near Harappa Toll Plaza. However, the driver accelerated the speed in an attempt to flee. The motorway police officers alerted their next patrolling mobile.

“Upon receiving the alert, Sub-Inspector Munsab Mohsin and Constable Saifur Rehman displayed exceptional professionalism and risked their lives to stop the car near Mehr Din Cotton Factory on GT Road, Chichawatni and arrested two culprits,” it added.

On searching the car, the officers recovered 29 packets (36kg) hashish, one SMG, five magazines containing 285 bullets, two Beretta and three Glock pistols with 10 magazines, three mobile phones, cash and three debit cards.

The motorway police handed over the arrested suspects along with the recovered illegal weapons, drugs and other items to the police station Kassowal for legal action and investigation.

“Inspector General Riffat Mukhtar Raja invited the officials to commend them for their dedication and courage to his office in Islamabad, where they were honoured with cash rewards and certificates of appreciation at a ceremony.”

The IG NHMP emphasised the importance of dedication, passion and commitment in service of police officers. He said the prompt action and sense of duty served as a beacon of inspiration for the entire force.
