KARACHI: Two men were shot dead and seven others injured when two groups clashed with each other over a fight between children in Manghopir on Thursday evening, police said.

Area SHO Imran Ahmed Khan told Dawn that a scuffle broke out between some children in the Khairabad area which later on their elders also joined. Two groups led by Zafar Khan and Amir Jan resorted to firing on each other. As a result, two persons were killed and four others sustained bullet wounds, including one passer-by. Three others suffered injuries caused by hard and blunt instruments.

Contingents of the police, led by SP Manghopir, rushed to the spot after information. The officer claimed that one suspect, Zafar Khan, was arrested along with weapons while concerted efforts were underway to arrest other suspects.

The dead and injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The deceased were identified as Mohammed Khan, 20, and Pani Khan, 22. Among the wounded were Shaukat, 52, Amanullah Amir, 25, and Amanullah Daud, 22.

West-SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi told Dawn that as per preliminary probe, the violent clash appeared to be an outcome of quarrel between children.
