A NEGLEGTED HIGHWAY

A NEGLEGTED HIGHWAY: Balochistan is linked to Sindh through the Quetta-Sukkur highway (N-65) and Quetta-Karachi highway (N-25). Both the routes are essential in terms of enabling traders to continue their trade, especially farmers who are able to reach markets in Karachi and Sukkur. However, N-25, which is the preferred route, has been in a bad shape for a very long time. Hundreds of accidents occur on the road every year, resulting in the loss of many a life. Moreover, the road lacks speed cameras to keep checks on overspeeding, which is one of the leading causes of accidents. The National Highway Authority should take immediate steps to maintain the highway.

STUDENTS AT CROSSROADS: It seems all universities have come to a perpetual halt across Sindh as they lurch from one crisis to another, disrupting the academic process of thousands of students. In 2023, a petty administrative standoff between the employees’ union and the vice-chancellor (VC) at Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai University had created unnecessary hurdles for students during examinations. In 2024, a video scandal involving a VC led to the suspension of educational activities for months. And now, the ongoing issue of amendments to the university laws has once again caused much disturbance across the province. Now it is time all the stakeholders prioritised students’ interests, and kept aside their differences for the betterment of education.

FAKE NOTES: I recently had a bad experience. After enjoying my lunch at a hotel in Hub, I paid the bill at the counter. I returned home without noticing that the person on the counter had given me a fake note of Rs500 denomination. The next day, when I visited the hotel and complained to the management about the issue, the matter was simply brushed aside. People should remain vigilant on this count.
