KARACHI: Five members of the same family, including three women, suffered critical burn wounds in an explosion caused by a leakage in a gas geyser in Azizabad on Saturday morning, police and rescue services officials said.

Area SHO Amir Azam said that the incident took place in the ground floor portion of a four-storey house in Federal B Area’s Block 2 near Al-Falah Masjid.

He said that apparently there was a leak in the geyser in the house and one room was filled with gas. He said when someone lit a match it triggered an explosion, causing injuries to five family members.

The injured persons were shifted to the Burns Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

The officer said three women admitted at the Burns Centre suffered 100 per cent, 82pc, and 45pc burns and their condition was said to be critical.

They were identified as Humera Kamran, 42, her daughter Maryam, 23 and Noor Fatima Moosa, 28.

Tanker rams into apartment, damages three cars

A water tanker rammed into the wall of a residential apartment near Sakhi Hasan on Saturday.

Taimuria SHO Saqib Khan said that the tanker was parked at a water hydrant there. When the driver tried to start it in the morning, pressure did not build up and the vehicle suddenly hit the nearby wall of the residential apartment, damaging it and as well as three cars parked there.

The officer said the tanker owner and the residents reached some agreement under which the former would pay the cost of repair of the damaged vehicles, thus they did not want any legal proceedings.
