BAJAUR: Political and social activists staged a demonstration here on Friday, demanding the arrest of those responsible for the killing of a police official escorting a polio team on Wednesday.

The protest was held on the main Khar-Timergara highway in Gardai area, the home town of the deceased policeman.

The participants, who blocked the road to traffic for some time, condemned the killing of Rab De Mal Shah.

The protesters also criticised the police failure to arrest the attackers despite the passage of two days of the incident, which occurred in Damadola area of War Mamond tehsil.

They said a number of police officials had been killed during polio duty in the district in the past, but no culprit was reportedly arrested till date.

They demanded of the senior police officials to ensure early arrest of the attackers in the latest case.

The protesters ended the road blockade after a team of the district administration and police visited them and assured them that efforts were underway for the early arrest of the assailants.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Shahid Ali Khan and district police officer Waqas Rafique on Friday visited the house of the martyred police official to express sympathies with the bereaved family.

According to a statement, both the officials informed the family that efforts were underway to bring the assailants to justice.

According to the statement, the officials promised to support the children of the slain policeman in getting education.
