MANSEHRA: Police department on Saturday distributed Rs3 million cheques among families of police personnel under a welfare scheme.

“We want to ensure that our police personnel perform their duty without financial worries. This amount has been distributed to support their daughters’ weddings and educational and medical expenses,” Shafiullah Khan Gandapur, the district police officer, told the cheque distribution ceremony at his office.

He said that cheques were handed over to 42 police personnel and their families following the instructions of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Hazara Range) Nasir Mehmood Satti.

“Police continue to honour the legacy of their brave personnel, who laid down their lives in the line of duty. This financial assistance is meant to ease the financial burdens of their families,” he stated.

The DPO said that they were also implementing various welfare initiatives for the families of martyred personnel, as they sacrificed their lives for the security and protection of their people and country.

Meanwhile, police seized a large cache of smuggled timber being illegally transported from forests to different parts of the district.

A police team, led by SP Nazir Khan, along with DSP Waheed Khan and SHO Darband Hassan Khan intercepted a pickup vehicle following a tip-off and seized a large quantity of high-quality deodar timber being smuggled to Mansehra.

The timber smugglers and the driver were arrested and a fine of Rs300,000 was imposed on them.

Also, a police team, led by SP Rashim Jehangir, along with DSP Majid Naseem and SHO Battal Shujahat Hussain intercepted another pickup vehicle and seized a huge quantity of illegally transported timber and the vehicle was also impounded.
