PESHAWAR: The city traffic police have taken steps for ensuring smooth flow of traffic and public safety on the roads of the provincial metropolis.

A statement issued here said that chief traffic officer (CTO) Haroon Rashid Khan on the directions of the IGP had taken various steps for improving the traffic flow, besides launching a campaign against motorcyclists not wearing helmets.

He said a drive against encroachments was kicked off in collaboration with the district administration, arresting 500 violators.

In order to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the holy month of Ramazan, he said about 600 police personnel had been deployed as part of the third shift.

Besides lane discipline, he said three driving schools had also been started in order to educate people and create awareness among them. He added delivery of licence was ensured within 15 minutes after clearance of road and medical test. “Furthermore, awareness messages are being displayed on LED screens in multiple stations of BRT for educating general public,” he added.

Mr Rashid along with SPs visited various educational institutions, including schools and universities, and distributed 5,000 booklets, 6,000 pamphlets and 100 helmets.
