LAKKI MARWAT: Bannu deputy commissioner Abdul Hameed Khan on Wednesday distributed compensation cheques among the relatives of those who died and sustained injuries during a stampede at a peace rally last year.

The cheque distribution ceremony was held at the deputy commissioner’s compound attended by additional deputy commissioner Aminulah Khan and assistant commissioner Allah Nawaz.

Under a special package approved by the provincial government, the heirs of two deceased persons received cheques of Rs3 million each, while 29 injured people were given cheques of Rs1 million each.

It is to be recalled that two people were killed and 29 others were injured when gunfire caused a stampede at a peace rally in Bannu district in July last year.

The deputy commissioner said on the occasion that the provincial government was committed to the rehabilitation of affected families.

He said that the financial assistance would enable the family members of the victims to restart their normal life.
