LAHORE: The Punjab home department has asked the Nadra officials to issue QR codes and link them with the arms licences holders within a week for online verification by the law-enforcement agencies.

Chairing a meeting, Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal directed all divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners to put QR codes on arms licences orders. He said the licences’ verification through QR codes would help identify and eliminate fake arms licences.

He said the persons involved in heinous crimes were not qualified to get arms licences and directed the officials to scrutinise the already given licences to ensure that no criminal should have arms licence.

He said the government was also working on amending the arms rules for the facilitation of the general public to apply for individual or business arms licences.

Special Home Secretary Fazalur Rehman, Additional Secretary (judicial) Imran Hussain and Nadra officials attended the meeting.
