A CITY IN CRISIS: In January alone, 45 people, including five women, lost their lives in Karachi due to gun violence in different areas. Five more people were killed while resisting robberies and several died in other violent incidents. The statistics are horrifying, calling for a quick and effective response. The authorities should increase surveillance and security measures. They should take strict action against criminals, use cam-eras for crime prevention, and promote peace awareness among the people.

FORGOTTEN LOVE: Urdu, our national language, was once a widely spoken language in South Asia. It has a vibrant history, but its future looks bleak as the young generation prefers to use English over Urdu. Parents send their children to English-medium schools, hoping to ensure a better future for them. As a result, children have drifted away from the national language. One can find English everywhere. We must value our identity, and be proud of our language and culture.

LAWLESSNESS: Over the last few days, the Thul taluka of Jacobabad has witnessed a spate of violent incidents by bandits. The people foiled an attempted abduction of a female student, and handed the culprit over to the police. Such acts of lawlessness have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the area. The authorities should take immediate and stern action to restore law and order.

BUDGET CUTS: Escalating prices are pushing families towards financial distress as they are struggling to manage their monthly budgets. Many people have to cut their basic necessities. The gover-nment needs to prevent hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities. Also, it must present policies that should focus on domestic production, reducing unnecessary imports, and supporting local industries.
