KARACHI: The Sindh government on Wednesday appointed Jawad Dero as the new advocate general of the province.

Mr Dero, who has been serving as the additional advocate general since 2018, was made acting AG-Sindh in January after the elevation of the then AG Hasan Akbar as a judge of the Sindh High Court.

“In recognition of his outstanding performance, the Government of Sindh has appointed him as the advocate general of Sindh,” said a statement issued by the law department on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old lawyer has become the youngest chief law officer in the history of Sindh thanks to the 26th Amendment to the Constitution.

Previously, the minimum age for becoming a high court judge or advocate general was 45 years, but it has now been reduced to 40 years following the new constitutional amendment.

He completed his legal education from the University of Kent and postgraduate in legal practice from the University of London. He started practicing as a district court lawyer in 2008 and was subsequently enrolled in the high court in 2010.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Dero said that it was an honour for him to become the youngest provincial law officer of Sindh.
