LAHORE, Sept 30: Speakers paid rich tributes to PML leader and former chief minister Ghulam Haider Wyne at a meeting held to observe his 13th death anniversary by the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust and Nazaria-i-Pakistan Foundation here on Saturday.

Former senator Dr Javid Iqbal said the late Mr Wyne would always be remembered for setting up institutions in education, health and other fields.

He said these institutions were playing an important role in the development and progress of Pakistan. “He was, in fact, Shahjehan of Muslim League and Pakistan. While Shahjehan had built historical buildings, Mr Wyne had left behind institutions for Pakistan.”

He said Mr Wyne’s life was a role model for the people of Pakistan. He was a self-made man who had risen to become chief minister by working hard and with devotion for the service of his people.

He said he founded the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust and Nazaria-i-Pakistan Foundation for the promotion of the ideology of Pakistan and encouragement of the workers of the Pakistan movement.

Foundation chairman Majid Nizami described Mr Wyne as Sir Saiyed Ahmad Khan of Mian Channu where he had established a number of educational institutions. Thousands of boys and girls were receiving education in these institutions and his widow deserved all appreciation for running them successfully.

He said Mr Wyne had risen to high positions of Punjab’s chief minister by hard work and dedication to his cause of social welfare.

He said he was a sincere politician and worked hard for the Muslim League.

Dr Rafiq Ahmad said Mr Wyne was a role model for the new generation. He had set up many institutions, including the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust and Nazaria-i-Pakistan Foundation. He gave the idea of setting up Bab-i-Pakistan where a large complex was under construction. He had vast experience of local government. He had also established Punjab Education Foundation and Health Foundation.

Other speakers included Begum Majida Wyne, MNA Bushra Rehman, Ghulam Dastgir Khan, Azam Cheema and journalist Rafiq Ghauri.
