MIRAMSHAH, Nov 3: A madressah administrator was killed by unidentified assailants in the Razmak area of North Waziristan Agency on Thursday, officials and witnesses said.

Sources said that Maulvi Salahuddin, whose name was on a list of people wanted by the militants, was kidnapped from the Mana area while going to Razmak from the Makeen area in the South Waziristan Agency. He ran a madressah in the Shawal area.

A hand-written chit was found on his body which was recovered from a dry water course in the area. The chit stated that Salahuddin, who spied on the Taliban for the Americans, had met his fate, the sources said.

They said that Salahuddin had developed ties with the local Taliban after he was declared a “spy for the US forces.” However, those who did not like to see him in the Taliban ranks, kidnapped him and shot him dead, the sources believe.

His throat was slit, they told Dawn.

REINFORCEMENT: Meanwhile, security forces are said to be reinforcing their positions in different areas of the North Waziristan Agency, raising fears among residents that there might be a showdown.

Local people said that there was also increased surveillance by army helicopters in the area during the night.

After the Bajaur air strike, the authorities had advised the army and security personnel against going to the bazaar without any pressing need, sources said.
