KARACHI: A 'mentally disturbed' policeman killed one of his colleagues and injured six others at the Saeedabad police training centre here on Saturday night.

Officials said that about 10 policemen deputed with the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) were sitting outside its computer section on the premises of the training centre when they came under attack.

“Policeman Mohammad Younus was killed and six others, including a sub-inspector, were injured,” DSP Akram Sheikh, the area's supervising officer, said. The body and the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital.

The attacker, identified as police constable Mohammad Farooq, was arrested.

The DSP quoted one of the injured policemen as saying that Farooq snatched a rifle from one of his colleagues and started firing at them. He said that initial findings suggested that Farooq was suffering from serious mental disorders and a complaint had also been lodged with senior officers of the department.
