I visited house of Virgin Mary on top of the Bulbus mountain near Ephesus,Turkey and was told that she was buried somewhere there though the exact location could still not be found,could Christain friends throw some light on this contradiction.

Yes, it is good to know facts about your neighbor's religion but it would be more helpful if the 'facts' were correct. It is an oxymoron to claim that the Church of the Assumption marks the tomb of the Virgin Mary when the definition of "the Assumption" is the taking of Mary into Heaven, BODY and soul, thereby eliminating the need for a "tomb" to hold her earthly remains. More correctly, the church of the Assumption marks the place where Mary was 'assumed' into heaven. If you believe in the tenets of the Church, there are no earthly remains of Jesus or Mary.

Thanks for the article but contrary against the title, there seems to be more pictures of Orthodox nuns than the tomb of the Virgin Mary.
The other thing that puzzles me is why the annual procession is held on Sept. 5 instead of Sept. 8. I'm not sure though if the feast is celebrated on the same day for the Orthodox Church as it is for the Roman Catholic Church.

Just to clear up some facts. The Orthodox nuns and priests are praying inside the Church of the Assumption. The Assumption of the Virgin Mary means that she was assumed into heaven body and soul. Therefore, there cannot be a "tomb of the Virgin Mary." This site marks the spot where she was assumed into heaven, not her tomb.

Wonderful pictures. Religious harmony is seen in the dress code of nuns. Its the same like muslim women hijab or burka.

Perhaps our burqas are derived from the nuns, and not the other way around. Of course, their dress is restricted only to nuns, and is willingly taken. In our cultures, we try to force all women to wear burqa.

Some of you may be aware of the belief in some circles that the Tomb of Virgin Mary is actually in Murree, Pakistan. It is called the "Mai Mari ka Asthan" (or something similar). In the 1800's Murree was actually spelt as Mari.
