Indian people discarded by society or by their near and dear ones happily take their lunch during the 15th death anniversary of Mother Teresa at Shanti Nilaya, Home for the Dying Destitutes, run by The Missionaries of Charity in Ahmedabad. Currently the Home for the Dying Destitute shelters and caters to some 180 male inmates who are either discarded by society or their own near and dear ones, irrespective of caste or creed.

For over 45 years, she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries. Her beatification by Pope John Paul II following her death gave her the title "Blessed Teresa of Calcutta".

Services held to commemorate the 15th death anniversary of Mother Teresa, the “Angel of Mercy,” a Nobel peace prize winner and Roman Catholic saint-in-waiting, who died on September 5, 1997 in eastern Indian city of Kolkata earlier known as Calcutta. Awards for her services to humanity include, Nobel Peace Prize, Bharat Ratna, Padma Shri, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Jawaharlal Nehru Award, Golden Honor of the Nation, Pope John XXIII Peace Prize, Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding, Ramon Magsaysay Award for Peace and International Understanding, Albert Schweitzer International Prize, Pacem in Terris Award, Balzan Prize. – Photos by AFP

Mother Teresa was an earthly saint. she cared and supported the poor as human beings not on their religious belief.
