ISLAMABAD, March 30: The deputy managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV), Akhtar Waqar Azim, is likely to be appointed as the next managing director of the corporation, sources told Dawn on Sunday.

At present, he is working as the acting managing director.

The sources said the general manager PTV Lahore, Khawaja Najmul Hassan, was likely to be posted back as general manager PTV-III. Similarly, former general manager, PTV Lahore, Muniza Hashmi, is trying to become director programmes, they revealed.

The sources said the authorities concerned had approved the appointment of Akhtar Waqar Azim for the slot of managing director and official notification in this regard would be issued within a few days.

Mr Azim is stated to be a seasoned official of the PTV having a vast experience of over 30 years in programme production. He has already served as director programmes before becoming the deputy managing director.

The sources said since the transfer of Khawaja Najmul Hassan, the output of PTV-III had been badly affected. Therefore, it had been decided that Mr Hassan be posted back to PTV-III.
