KARACHI: The operation in Karachi's Lyari area entered its sixth day on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

The police have been claiming to have taken control of a significant portion of Lyari and that the operation would be completed within the next couple of days.

The area, however, was tense on Wednesday and intermittent gunshots could be heard. Moreover, residents remained in a state of fear and uncertainty.

Earlier on Tuesday, stray bullets and grenade attacks in the area left a number of people wounded and police claimed killing a gangster named Tariq Siyah Pat in Afshani Gali.

Tuesday also saw protests breaking out in different parts of Karachi against the ongoing operation. Police resorted to baton charge, firing tear gas shells and gunshots into the air to disperse the charged crowds.
