ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) issued a show-cause notice to Faisal Raza Abidi over his Sunday press conference during which the firebrand senator had lashed out at the judiciary and at Arsalan Iftikhar, son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, DawnNews reported on Monday.
Moreover, taking notice of the press briefing, the Supreme Court also summoned a record of it.
During the press conference, Senator Abidi had distributed copies of the bank statements of a company, ‘F&A Enterprises’, allegedly owned by Arsalan Iftikhar, son of the chief justice, carrying the address of his official residence.
The senator had also criticised the Supreme Court for nullifying the recently-passed contempt of court law and termed it part of a plan to pitch two state institutions against each other.
The show-cause notice was issued to Senator Abidi by PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar.
The notice directs Senator Abidi to explain his press briefing of Aug 5 in which he had said that while contempt cases against a number of people, including PPP leaders Babar Awan, Sharjeel Memon and Taj Haider, were pending the court had hurriedly convicted a prime minister and sent him home.
Speaking to DawnNews, Senator Abidi acknowledged having received the notice and said he would respond to it soon.
He said he stood by his stance on the matter and was proud of what he had done.

we respect and have a high regard for the integrity CJ and other judges of the supreme court. Mr Abidi should be ashamed of himself hurling such allegations against CJ. Its high time PPP should get rid of people like Mr Abidi for the sake of the Party

This judiaciary did some positive things but we cannot say that it is completely impartial. I think to restore the pretige of this institution, fresh faces and non PCO faces should take charge of further proceedings. At the moment, there's lot of personalized politics going on. This should be avoided for the sake of Pakistan. It is better for the CJ to resign at this time.

Contempt of Court is a serious matter. It must be put down in accordance with law without any concessions. Now, it appears that judiciary is the only clean arm of the State left. From President to clerks in NADRA are involved in some financial improprietory, be it 60 million $ or issuance of a false CNIC. God Bless the Judiciary!

Pakistan is now suffering from Judiciary dictatorship. You cannot criticize them or question them. I am no fan of PPP but anyone should be able to criticize and critique the Judiciary, Army, ISI or anybody else. That is the sense of true democracy.

Judiciary could have a great repute. But at this time it is running the show as a dictator using the office of the law as a shield. They can and will say any thing they want behind the skirts of law. Law is created in parliment... Law is followed in court period. Laws are ammended in parliment ... Recommendations to correct laws are made by Courts.

A citizen of Pakistan has shown a paper that a company owned by CJ's son (having a 900 million rupees bank balance) is registered on the CJ House address. Every ghairat mand Pakistani will feel the embarassment of this fact. Let us just investigate this allegation before giving any biased verdict.
