MQM demands opposition benches for its elected members

KARACHI: The Rabita (coordination) Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has said that resignations of its ministers and advisors should be accepted immediately.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the party also called for the issuance of notification of the MQM's leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly.

MQM, on Feb 16, had decided to quit the federal and provincial governments in protest against what it described as ‘negative attitude’ of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Later on, several leaders of the party including Dr Farooq Sattar and Raza Haroon hurled serious accusations against the PPP of patronising ‘criminals and terrorists’ and not implementing the Sindh People’s Local Government Act, 2012, and creating hindrance in work of MQM ministers.

The statement issued on Saturday said that all of the federal and provincial ministers and advisors of the MQM had already tendered their resignations and applications had been submitted for the allotment of opposition benches.

Rabita Committee further said that the party had been raising its voice against undemocratic actions and it would continue to play an active role from the opposition benches by speaking about public issues– APP/DawnNews
